In the viral video, we could see a group of friends seated across two tables at a restaurant. The fancy place seemed to be priced on the higher end and the friend group was in a tussle after receiving the bill. One of the girls in the video said that it was her birthday and she wanted others to cover the cost of the meal for her special day. "She wanted everyone to split the bill for her birthday dinner," read the caption to the post. Meanwhile, another man featured in the video suggested that everyone should pay for what they ordered rather than splitting the cost of expensive dishes such as steak and lamb chops.
The clip received over 20 million views on Twitter and 1.3 million on Instagram. The video of the friend's group in a tussle over the huge $4,600 bill divided internet users. Some felt it was not justified to think of splitting when everyone's order was of different amounts. "The audacity of people to order steak and lamb chops and want somebody else to pay half," wrote one user while another said, "I'm not splitting a $4600 bill and I only ate $53 worth!" Meanwhile, some felt that this heated exchange was unnecessary and even seemed a bit staged or scripted. "How about we act like adults and all pay for our own food," commented one user.
Take a look at some of the reactions to the viral video:
If you all can't afford it by yourself then you shouldn't be going there as a group— 💜 (@thefutxre) July 17, 2023
I've never split a bill in my life. We either take turns picking it up or we pay for what we ordered. This notion of splitting the bill is outside of my understanding fr because I be getting a grilled cheese with water and someone else wants 6 cocktails, an appetizer, and steak.— katie mae (@MaebyKate) July 17, 2023
I've seen this happen in some nice restaurant establishments & always felt embarrassed for the people involved. And it's always the people who order the most who come up short & want to split bills.— JAYFORCE (@Jayforce) July 17, 2023

Some users were skeptical and raised the possibility that the video is fake.
