The harvest season in India was celebrated with much enthusiasm across the country. While the northern regions marked it with the festivals of Lohri and Makar Sankranti, south India celebrated it with Pongal. Thanks to social media, we saw our favourite celebrities going all out to celebrate these festivals in their most elementary form. Little late to the party, superstar Rajinikanth's daughter Aishwaryaa has now given a glimpse of the family's Pongal celebrations and it was all about traditions. 

An important part of Pongal is to prepare traditional foods for the family. Feeding the cattle is also considered auspicious. Aishwaryaa made sure to follow all the Pongal customs. In a series of pictures that she posted on Instagram, we can see her donning a traditional south Indian saree and cooking festive food in the kitchen. She was stirring food being cooked in traditional metal pots wrapped with leaves. A plate full of different fruits can be seen kept ready on the shelf.

In the next photo, Aishwaryaa is plating up food on large banana leaves. We can see a lot of colourful sweets and vadas among other dishes. Following Pongal rituals, Aishwaryaa also fed bananas and greens to the cattle. In the last picture, she takes blessings from parents Rajinikanth and Latha.

The post already has over than 130k likes and hundreds of comments from fans and followers wishing and blessing the family.

Pongal is a 4-day harvest festival that marks the sun's transition towards the north (Uttarayan) and end of the winter solstice. Food is an integral part of the festivities. Here are some of the most popular dishes that are prepared and served during Pongal as a tradition.
