Highlights

  • Baking a cake is quite a therapeutic process.
  • However, have you ever seen someone bake a cake in mid-air?
  • A video of a cabin crew member doing so has gone viral.

Who doesn't enjoy treating themselves to a bite of decadent cake? Whether it's a special occasion or simply after a long, tiring day, just a spoonful of this sugary delight is what we need. Also, let's not forget the mesmerising aroma that fills your house. However, have you ever seen someone baking a cake on an airplane? No, this isn't some kind of internet challenge, but a fun activity performed by the cabin crew of an Irish airline. Miguel Vasconcelos, who works with Ryanair, has shared a video of himself baking a cake on a flight with the help of his colleague Kaya Dzikowska.
The clip begins with Miguel taking out some of the baking ingredients and doing all the preparation on a service trolley. He starts by mixing the ready-made chocolate base with two eggs, oil, water, chocolate chips, and chocolate chunks. Once the mixture turns into a paste texture, he transforms it into a tray and wraps it with transparent foil to avoid spilling. He puts the tray in the oven. Towards the end of the clip, they can be seen tasting their foodie adventure. Sharing the video, he wrote, "Baking a cake on the airplane... What should I bake next?" Several users flooded the comments section with questions about safety. In addition, many wondered if the crew members were allowed to do so on a flight. A user said, “Absolutely a shame. You broke the safety on-board procedures already by baking that cake in the oven. The oven is for heat, not for cooking. And that plastic protector could initiate a fire. I cannot believe your company is not taking this into account. One of the reasons people like you make our cabin crew job undervalued. Remember, safety first.” Another person asked, “Is that allowed?”
The video was also acknowledged by a few people working in the industry. “I'd love to have someone like this as a co-worker rather than a backseat-driving miserable person who can't even remember the last time they smiled. Keep doing…” A user hilariously said, “Please share this with the flight deck.” Another wrote, “I'm surprised to see that there is an oven on board a Ryanair plane.”
