Food and hygiene at the Indian Railways remain a major concern for passengers, with alleged videos emerging on social media featuring contaminated food, unhygienic ways of making them, and more. Recently, another such video capturing rats enjoying open food at an IRCTC stall has raised concerns among all. Reportedly, the footage, uploaded on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), was from Itarsi Junction railway station in Madhya Pradesh. Shared from the handle @trainwalebhaiya, by a person named Saurabh, the video has gained significant attention on the internet. Official RailwaySeva handle too responded to the post, assuring immediate actions will be taken.

In a 37-second video, we could see patties, eggs, bread, and containers lying openly in a closed IRCTC stall at the Itarsi station, and some pesky rats rummaging through the foods. "Rats on IRCTC food inspection duty. The reason why I avoid eating food from Railway station vendors!"

Railway authorities were quick enough to reply to the video, "Please share your mobile number, preferably via DM, to enable us to take immediate action. You may also raise your concern directly on https://railmadad.indianrailways.gov.in or dial 139 for speedy redressal." They also tagged the Divisional Railway Manager, Bhopal Division, and wrote, "For necessary action, escalated to the concerned official @Bhopaldivision."

DRM Bhopal promptly replied, "Matter is being notified to concerned officials."

Meanwhile, the video has left people disgusted with internet users raising concerns about the hygiene and safety of the passengers.

"@IRCTCofficial management should put in place proper supervision to prevent this or their officials should be made to eat the food from here daily," wrote a user.

Another person commented, "Food inspectors raid only where they get mawa malai, but they never inspect government and railway station food stalls and pantries."

A third comment read, "@irctc railway food become worse. Please save the railway from becoming worst."
