It's not practically possible to always polish off all the food that's cooked for a meal. We are often left with unconsumed food, which is usually repurposed for the next meal or eaten again as is. If you thought that this is the story of every typical Indian household, you may be wrong. It seems even celebrities like Virat Kohli eat their leftover meals to avoid wastage - and the internet is in awe. A tweet narrating the incident has gone viral and users of the platform are praising Kohli for being so humble and making an effort to prevent food wastage.
It all happened back in the year 2018. Chef Pillai from Kerala shared a personal anecdote, which was shared on a Twitter post. It was from the time when the Indian cricket team visited Trivandrum for an ODI match and stayed in a hotel where the chef worked at. "A beautiful story between Virat Kohli and famous Kerala chef Pillai in 2018. Kohli is not just a great player, he is a great human as well," read the caption of the story.

Chef Pillai recalled how the catering staff went all out to present the best food to the team. "We had sourced the best fresh seafood from the Arabian Sea and the Ashtamudi Lake and prepared an expansive seafood platter for the Indian team. Kohli, being a vegetarian (and also the only vegan in the squad if I remember right) could not have any of those. So I suggested the best vegetarian food that Kerala has to offer - our Sadya," wrote Chef Pillai.
The chef also revealed that preparing a Sadya meal is no mean task and the staff had put in a great deal of effort and time into making the meal consisting of 24 dishes. As expected, Virat Kohli could not finish the meal, but unexpectedly, he asked the chef, "What are you going to do about the leftover food?

Chef Pillai told Kohli that they'll have to dispose-off the leftover food as that was a one-off order, to which Kohli instantly asked, "Can I have the rest for dinner?"
Even after the chef politely declined the request at first because the hotel had strict rules that prohibited reserving food for guests, Virat Kohli insisted on being served the leftover food for dinner, and the staff eventually obliged.
