Picture this: You and your partner are struggling to find an affordable food hub in Vasant Vihar and fortunately bumped into one. If you are looking for a cosy local dive to enjoy a relaxing and satisfying meal in this chilly season, then Cafe Grumpee could be your next go-to spot. Based in the posh locality of Vasant Vihar, this quaint little cafe has a warm ambience, friendly staff, and a mouth-watering menu that caters to different tastes and preferences. As you walk towards the entrance of the cafe, the facade might not be captivating; however, once you step foot inside, you will feel the warmth and the Christmasy atmosphere surrounding you.
Cafe Grumpee is an L-shaped food hub, which is small but surprisingly spacious at the same time (good organizational skills!). It has comfortable seating and charming decor with loads of books. The walls are decorated with quirky paintings and dim lights. The best part about the seating area is that it's not too cluttered with tables, which gives ample walking space and privacy to the customers. When I visited the cafe, the staff played some amazing cover songs of popular English and American hits. However, unlike other restaurants, the music was pleasant, not too loud, creating a nice atmosphere for conversation. So, you can hang out at Cafe Grumpee with your friends or even your partner.
As for food, the menu boasts several options, even healthy ones to choose from. Whether you are in the mood for a hearty breakfast, a light (but super tasty) salad, cheesy pasta, or a delectable dessert, you will find something to choose from their lengthy menu. The service is fast, portions generous, and prices are reasonable, which makes it great value for money.
The first thing that I tried at Cafe Grumpee was The Hulk, which is smashed avocado with feta cheese chunks placed on sourdough. I was amazed at how flavorful the combination was. The creaminess of the avocado perfectly complemented the crunchiness of the bread. Moreover, it comes with a side of mixed-leaf house salad. It was personally recommended to me by Cafe Grumpee's manager, and I felt it was a perfect way to begin my gastronomic adventure.
Next, I tried the cafe's bestseller, Chicken and Avocado salad. This refreshing salad came with grilled chicken chunks, loads of greens (yes, it's super healthy), roasted peanuts, and a delicious honey peanut vinaigrette dressing. It was so light and at the same time, filling, that it instantly made me fall in love with it. In terms of shakes, what caught my attention was the Monkey Madness shake, which had hints of bananas and other fruits. It paired perfectly with my chicken and avocado salad.
From taste to presentation to aroma, all the items on Cafe Grumpee's menu are worthy of attention. For example, I tried Burrata salad, which is a classic combination of flavours and textures. The quantity is sufficient for two people to have ample of it. I also spotted a Black Olive Sun-Dried Tomato Tapenade and Red & Black Superfood Salad on the menu.
For the main course, I tried Vegetable Lasagna, which was not great but not too bad. In terms of non-veg, I went ahead and ordered Barbequed Jumbo Prawns, which were heavenly. They came topped with delicious BBQ sauce and garnished with sesame seeds and cherry tomatoes. On the dessert menu, I could see a wide range of sweets like Warm Almond cake, Apple Pear Berry Cobbler, Espresso Rum Dark chocolate, and Warm Lemon Tea Cake. I ended my meal with a delicious Strawberry cheesecake, which was topped with chunks of this sweet fruit. This dessert melted in my mouth and honestly left me asking for more.
Overall, my experience at Cafe Grumpee was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful, cooperative, and knowledgeable, so you can ask for their recommendations if unsure what to order. Cafe Grumpee is a must-visit for anyone who loves good food and cosy vibes!
