Higher Intake of Caffeine May Lower Ringing in the Ears
If you're a woman suffering from constant buzzing in one or both ears, then you might be a victim of tinnitus. Tinnitus refers to a constant ringing in the ear and differs in severity for different people. In some cases it can also inhibit a person from being able to listen, work or sleep.
According to a study which appeared in the American Journal of Medicine if you're a woman suffering from unexplained ear ringing then you should increase your intake of caffeine, especially coffee. It went on to explain how a higher caffeine intake is associated with lower rates of tinnitus in younger and middle-aged women. The study followed more than 65,000 women aged between 30 and 44 years who did not have tinnitus at the start of the study. Researchers analysed the reports filled out by these women regarding their lifestyle and medical history over a period of 18 years. In the end researchers identified 5,289 cases of reported tinnitus. Gary Curhan, physician-researcher at the Channing Division of Network Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) in Boston, Massachusetts said "We observed a significant inverse association between caffeine intake and the incidence of tinnitus among these women." Researchers found that the incidence reported by women who consumed 450 to 599 mg/day of caffeine was much lower than women who consumed less than 150 mg/day. The majority of caffeine consumed among the women was from coffee and the results did not vary by age.

Curhan added, "We know that caffeine stimulates the central nervous system and previous research has demonstrated that caffeine has a direct effect on the inner ear in both bench science and animal studies."
