Chef Gordon Ramsay is famous (or infamous) for roasting others people's recipes on the internet. He can be crude and sometimes harsh, which has actually become his signature style of reviewing food. But the tables turned on him as he triggered some Indians and their love for one of the most popular Indian dishes. Butter Chicken is immensely loved in India. With some slight variations in different regions, the creamy, tangy and Buttery Chicken dish offers the same mouthfeel all over the country. But Gordon Ramsay dared to muck around with the Butter Chicken recipe, and needless to say, the internet was not happy.

Gordon Ramsay posted a quick recipe video of butter chicken on Instagram, and the viewers snubbed it as "not a real butter chicken." The video shows Ramsay boiling rice, then preparing butter chicken by first sauteing onions with garlic and green chillies. He adds some spice powders and tomato puree and mixes in chicken to cook it. He rounds it off with the garnishing of some coriander leaves and serves it with steamed rice.
"Tag someone who loves butter chicken curry! Learn how it's made on the @gordonramsayacademy evening butter chicken class or half-day Taste of India," he captioned the video.

Did you find something off in the caption of the video? Well, the internet was quick to notice that Gordon Ramsay called the dish butter chicken 'curry' and it did not go down well with them. Many viewers seem to have been offended for presuming every Indian dish is a curry. The video received other comments like:
"Gordon the thing you made is not at all butter chicken ... First, for gravy, we cook onions, tomatoes, some Indian spices and cashews, chillies etc. We cook it for a couple of minutes and make a fine paste out of it, then we fry the marinated chicken. For marination, chilli powder, ginger garlic paste, dried fenugreek, some oil and some more spice if needed and curd. After frying the chicken, you add it to the gravy and finally top it with butter. There are many more ingredients that I haven't included. Thank you."
"Butter chicken "curry"? Really? First off, that's basically not even butter chicken, secondly, not all Indian food is called curry. So disappointing."
"All Indian ancestors crying."
"That's not how you make butter chicken Mr. Gordon"
"That's not chicken butter. That's just British food pretending to be chicken butter. Sad."
