Chaap is a beloved street food in India that offers a diverse range of flavours. From creamy malai chaap to refreshing minty pudina chaap and smoky tandoori chaap, this particular food item has garnered a dedicated fanbase. Although soya chaap is often touted as a healthy choice, recent speculations suggest that some all-purpose flour (maida) may be incorporated during its preparation. In order to get to the bottom of this, a video creator decided to visit a chaap factory and unveil the truth. Let's delve into this investigation to ascertain whether our guilt-free chaap comes with a concealed guilt factor.

The chaap-making process begins by emptying a large quantity of soybeans into a drum. These soybeans are ground twice due to their high oil content. After grinding, the soybean mixture goes through a dusting machine to separate the husk. The resulting soya flour is used to make chaap, but here comes the twist: 60% of this soya flour is mixed with 40% of gluten atta (flour) and some salt to create a firm dough. The dough is then placed on a counter where workers roll it into thin strips, which are wrapped around sticks. These sticks are then placed in a large container for cooking. Following the cooking process, hundreds of soya sticks are immersed in a cold water bath. Afterwards, they are packed and frozen in a deep freezer. The chaap remains in the freezer for at least 12 hours before being sent to retailers. In the end, the creator claims that chaap does not contain maida as he showed it is prepared by mixing soya flour and gluten flour. Take a look at the video below:

In the comment section, several Instagram users are criticizing the creator, accusing them of misleading people by mentioning "gluten atta" instead of "maida." A user wrote, “Sir ko maida bolne mein sharam aari hai iss liye woh gluten wala aata bol re hain [Sir is too ashamed to call it maida, so he is referring to it as gluten atta.]” Another user added, “Gluten wala aata: Maida! Influencer se expected hai at least thoda reality dikhaye! [Gluten flour is maida. We expect influencers to show reality]” Someone said, “Bhai gluten atta hi to maida hota hai. [Bro, gluten atta is maida]”
