Tukaram Mundhe on the importance of this massive support from the public

Maharashtra FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe has led multiple food safety raids across the state, with licences of several food businesses suspended for non-compliance and food safety risks. His work has received immense public support, with many calling him a real-life "Singham" and "Nayak", inspired by revolutionary Bollywood characters who fearlessly work towards the welfare of citizens against all odds.

When asked about the importance of this massive support from the public, the government and even the opposition, Tukaram Mundhe told ANI, "I think it is very important. Along with support, participation is equally important. I strongly feel that what our department is doing should become a public movement. We have taken our first step towards this vision, and people are also participating in it."

Emphasising the relationship between health and food, he explained, "This is important for everybody's health. You, me, our children, relatives, everyone. If we want to make India a superpower, that cannot happen without a healthy India. For that, every citizen needs to be healthy. For that, all the food and medicine we consume should be healthy, efficacious, safe and standard."

He continued, "We are working in that direction, and it is everybody's duty to participate in it and to report any wrongdoing. Whether it is food business operators, enterprises or drug licence holders, everyone should follow the rules and guidelines."
