It is summertime in America and the season to enjoy fruits such as mangoes, papaya and of course, the super-hydrating watermelon. Just like us humans, there are many animals who enjoy a bite of refreshing summer fruits to stay cool in the heat and the sight of them taking those nibbles is absolutely delightful. Isn't it? If you just nodded in agreement, you are going to love this video. The San Antonio Zoological Society, a zoo in Texas, has shared a 55-second clip of two hippopotamuses savouring watermelon after one of them smashes it into two with its jaws.
“What better way to kick off summer than a good old-fashioned hippo watermelon smash?” read the caption accompanying the video. It begins with a person asking one of the hippopotamuses to come forward and collect a watermelon. He comes, gets his huge mouth out of the iron grill, and opens it wide. The person, who invited the animal, pats the upper portion of its mouth before placing a massive watermelon inside.
The hippo smashes the watermelon in one bite, spilling it on the ground. However, it didn't eat the fruit alone. Another hippo, who was in the same area, shared it as people giggled. Moments later, the same person picks up a broken piece of the fruit and once again puts it in the mouth of the hippo, who smashes it once again.
