Shared on Twitter by user @TrungTPhan, the thread has raked in over 9.5k likes and nearly 2k retweets. He used the example of popular brand Doritos to explain this phenomenon. "From the ingredients to cooking method to texture, it's engineered to pull all the psychological levers to make you crave the snack," he wrote in his tweet.

First, he said that highly processed foods had a greater chance to become addictive as noted in a study by American researchers. The next point was a high fat content and multiple levels of cooking that gave nacho chips a unique texture. A long list of flavour enhancers and significant amounts of cheese further added to the addictive taste of Doritos. Lastly, Doritos vanish quickly in just a single bite, giving our brain the signal that we need to eat more of it to fill our stomach. Thus, every packet of nacho chips leaves us wanting more!

Now that you know the science behind nacho chips and what makes them addictive, how about trying some healthy snacks instead? These interesting chips can be made at home and are actually much healthier than the packaged or store-bought ones.
