Obbattu Vs Puran Poli: Is There Any Difference Between The Two:

At the very first glance, both puran poli and obbattu look the same. But if you dive in deep, there are some basic differences in the ingredients. As per food experts, one of the main differences is the lentils used in the recipes. While puran poli includes chana dal stuffing, tuvar dal makes a popular choice for the South Indian version due to its availability and familiar taste. Obbattu, in some regions, also makes use of coconut and a pinch of salt for added flavours.

How To Make Obbattu | South Indian-Style Puran Poli Recipe:

The recipe is super simple. While you will find atta being used in the version in Tamil Nadu, other regions prefer maida for the flakiness. In this recipe, we used maida and coconut as well. Check it out.
To start with the recipe, knead a soft maida dough and keep it aside to rest. Then prepare a filling by soaking tool dal and then boiling it. Then add ingredients like coconut, jaggery, cardamom, turmeric, and a pinch of salt to it and prepare a filling. Rest, follow the process of making stuffed paratha, and make obbattu to enjoy on Ganesh Chaturthi. Make sure you have it hot, with a dollop of ghee on it. Click here for the recipe.
