Ed Sheeran, one of the most famous singers in the world right now, once led a not-so-healthy lifestyle, with a poor diet and lack of physical activity leading him to weigh 15-and-a-half stone (98 kg). Talking about his "fat phase" during a recent chat on the Session 24 podcast, Ed revealed that he ate chicken wings for a year and a half, thinking it was a no-carb diet. Ed said, "I was in my fat phase, in America I used to think no carb meant no bread, no fries. I was like 'I can eat chicken wings' and I just ate chicken wings for a year and a half. And I put on 4st (25.4 kg)," Mirror reported.

Ed revealed that he is prone to putting on a lot of weight. Reflecting on his dietary habits, he said, "I don't have an off switch. If I have one thing to eat, the off switch is there. Like if I have that, then I won't be like I need to order another and another. If everything is in front of me then I will eat it."

During a 2021 interview with The Sun, Ed had also shared that previously he used to drink a lot. He revealed that he gained weight due to a diet of "chicken wings, wine, beer" every day, coupled with "never" exercising. He added that taking a break from touring was the "worst thing" for his health, as he would "drink every single day".

It was only a few years ago, before Ed was going to become a dad, that he decided to switch to a healthier eating pattern, stop drinking every day and commit to the gym. In August 2020, Ed became a parent alongside his wife Cherry Seaborn, welcoming their first daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran. "Since becoming a dad I've become quite clean-living. But I think actually taking time off and not being on tour was the worst thing for my health because I would drink every single day," he told The Sun. "I stopped three months before Lyra was born because I was determined I was going to be the person to drive my wife to the hospital. I was 15-and-a-half stone (98 kg) at my peak, and I think I'm ten-and-a-half (66.6 kg) now - I was big, it really showed. I had a 36 waist - now I'm down to 28."
