When eating at home or at a cafe or a burger joint, most of our attention is focused on the flavours of the meal only. However, when dining in fancy restaurants, the taste of the food is just one of the aspects in focus. The other element, that sometimes even takes over the dish, is how it is served. Presentation plays a big role in how the dish is perceived. But what happens when the presentation takes over the dish? An Instagram content creator named Freddie (@quitefunnyforanonlychild) decided to give a funny spin to this idea of fancy restaurants serving food in "anything but plates".
So far, Freddie has posted three hilarious videos on the series. The part two video has gone viral on the social media platform, with about 2 million views.

In the first video, the content creator, dressed up as a server, brings the starters on an actual piece of rock and bread on an unpolished wooden plank. He serves the soup in the tiniest cup while saying, "Hope the soup didn't fill you up too much." There's more, chips are served in potted plants and fish on a chessboard.

The fun does not stop here. In the second and most viral video of the series, the server goes to the next level, serving garlic bread on a shovel, sausage and mash on an Ikea bookshelf, vegetables in a water sprinkler, pasta in an umbrella and ice cream wrapped in a towel. While serving the food in these bizarre substitutes for plates, he maintains a big smile and the stereotypical tone of staff at a fancy restaurant.

Looks like creativity knows no end. As restaurants experiment, so do the funny videos. Here's the third part of the series, involving olives stuck on a sieve, tap water served in the biggest jar, quiche on a dustpan and condiments inside a big chest of drawers. You cannot miss out on the panna cotta, placed on a toilet roll.

Instagram users cannot stop laughing after seeing these videos. Take a look at the comments:
"I worked in 5-star hotels and this is accurate," one wrote. "The IKEA bookshelf is too accurate," many echoed. One joked, "Next they just throw spaghetti directly in your face."

A viewer recalled their personal experience, "I was served a steak on a polished stone slab that had an incline. So all the juice and oil just kept flowing on the wooden table, and cutlery scraped against stone from every table." Another added, "I was once served ice cream in a tree."
