Sindhi Thali at Cilantro, Trident Gurugram

Indian cuisine is a melting pot of different cultures that are represented by their specific regional and native cuisines. And this makes Indian food truly vibrant with each of its cuisine worth its salt. Being a foodie, I like to try different foods from different cultures and got a chance to fulfil my desire to have authentic Sindhi food at Cilantro, Trident Hotel, Gurugram. The limited-period Sindhi food festival at this plush restaurant is on till May 17, 2022. And it is not to be missed.

Chef Bharat Khemani, A Sindhi himself, has put forth a delectable menu, each dish nuanced with authentic Sindhi flavours. There is something for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians, and the traditional thali comes brimming with some really enticing flavours. One look at the thali worked up my appetite and I couldn't wait to dig in. On the platter were most of the popular Sindhi dishes that I had heard of and always wanted to try.

My first pick was, obviously, Dal Pakwan, and it was an absolute delight. Dal mixture splayed on a crispy flatbread with mild but interesting blend of flavours and textures turned out to be just perfect. Also, on my large non-veg thali were Sanna Pakora (spinach and onion pakora), Sindhi Teevan (Lamb curry), Macchi Basar (Grilled fish with onion-tomato mixture), Sindhi Kadhi and more, paired with Sindhi kali mirch and moong dal Koki.

While I would still prefer the regular Punjabi-style kadhi over Sindhi kadhi, Macchi Basar, Sindhi Teevan and Sai Bhaji won my heart. Also, Bhuga Chanwar paired with Aloo Ja Tuk was so delicious that it left me wanting for more.

Sindhi desserts gave the perfect ending to my soul-soothing meal - Karachi Halwa and Khorak are a must-try.
