If there's one dish that all Indians love to devour for the main course, it has to be the good old chicken curry. Our desi palate craves classic Indian dishes, whether it is a get-together at home or a starry date night. Heaping a bowl of succulent meaty delicacy along with smoky dal makhani, palak paneer kofta and Kerala's chilli chicken fry, Henry Havaldar is a haven for all desi food lovers. The menu here is brimming with delectable mouth-watering dishes and invites everyone to a rendezvous with exotic Indian cuisine.

About Henry Havaldar
Henry Havaldar is the brainchild of an Army man, Harpal Singh (a.k.a. Henry Havaldar), and his wife, Kanchan Kaur (a.k.a. Kitty Kaur). Henry Havaldar tells the story of Harpal Singh from Bhatinda who joined the Indian Army and fell in love with the institution. He imbibed the values of the army - discipline, quality, excellence and dedication. He also grew in love with the food of the different parts of India where he was posted in his 20 years of service. Henry got married to Kanchan Kaur who is as much a foodie as her husband. Kanchan convinced Harpal to take early retirement and move to Delhi.
Henry Havaldar decides to put his food adventures to the test by creating a concept that brings great food from across India to the people of Delhi.

Food at Henry Havaldar
The menu at Henry Havaldar brings the North, South, East and West cuisines of India together. You will notice some familiar dishes and some totally new from a state you have never visited. We picked some starters and other dishes from their eclectic menu. We tried Kerala Chilli Chicken Fry and Indori Bhutte ki Kees. Kerala Chilli Chicken Fry was packed with exciting flavours and the smokiness of chicken and veggies amped up the flavours. Indori Bhutte ki Kees was quite filling and rich in taste, but we found it a little paste-y than coarse in texture.

For the mains, we tried Ambersar Langar Wali Daal, Palak Paneer Kofta, Baingan Mirch Ka Salan, Chicken Chettinad Curry and Calcutta Chicken Biryani. Ambersar Langar Wali Daal was quite comforting and bursting with flavours. I am definitely going to order it again. Palak Paneer Kofta was a little surprise and instantly stole the show. While Palak Paneer Kofta is a hit among vegetarians, Chicken Chettinad Curry is a good choice for those who like the tinge of hotness in their chicken curry with all the staple flavours. Calcutta Chicken Biryani was perfect. Teeming with robust spices, it complemented the delicious Baingan Mirch Ka Salan I paired it with. If you are indulging in Indian fare, can it be complete without hearty desi desserts? Of course, not! Henry's Kheer and Shahi Tukda were quite delightful and left us fulfilled and happy.
