The monsoon season sees a total of three Teej festivals, Hariyali Teej being the most popular one. After Hariyali Teej and Karjari Teej, today (August 30), Indian women are celebrating Hartalika Teej, which is also devoted to worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for marital bliss. As per the Hindu calendar, Hartalika Teej falls during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of Bhadrapada month. Women mark the occasion by fasting and offering prayers to Goddess Parvati. They wear shades of green and red, apply henna on hands and observe fast throughout the day. The Teej festival is mostly observed in the regions of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Delhi.  

Hartalika Teej 2022: Fasting Rituals 

The festive rituals dictate following a day-long nirjala fast (without food and water); some even fast for 24 hours, breaking it with a serving of soaked black gram and cucumber and following it with a lavish vegetarian spread.
