Tea is a popular beverage all across the globe.

Highlights

  • Tea is often accompanied with snacks or is flavoured with ingredients.
  • But you must be careful about the food you pair with it.
  • Nutritionist reveals foods that should not accompany your tea.

Who doesn't like relishing finger food with a hot cuppa? Especially, if you are a tea lover. It is hard to imagine a day without a steamy cup of kadak chai. Nothing sounds better than a hot cup of tea with simple home-cooked snacks. From biscuits, pakoras, samosas, and mathis to humble maska pav, the experience of crispy crunchy snacks is instantly elevated when paired with masala chai. But did you know that there may be some food ingredients that you must avoid consuming with your tea? Yes, you read that right. Nutritionist Disha Sethi has listed three food items that you must never pair with tea. Along with a video of herself preparing the liquor tea on her Instagram page Nutrifitness, Disha began her caption by saying, “Tea time snacks are our favourite. But things that you should never consume with tea.”

Here Are 3 Foods To Avoid With Tea:

1. Nuts

The nutritionist revealed that one must completely avoid consuming nuts with tea. This is because tea contains tannin, which as per USDA Forest Service, is a complex chemical substance derived from phenolic acids. Therefore, Dish Sethi revealed, “nuts have iron if you consume nuts with tea tannins, it will inhibit iron absorption.”

2. Green Leafy Vegetables

We all love munching on crunchy palak patta chaat or palak fritters. But Disha Sethi requested her Instagram family to avoid consuming green leafy vegetables with tea. Citing yet again a similar reason to that of nuts, the nutritionist stated, “Never have green leafy vegetables with tea (tea has tannins & leafy greens have iron).”

3. Turmeric

Turmeric is the go-to ingredient in any Indian kitchen. Be it dal for lunch or a curry dish for dinner, it's hard to imagine the preparation of any desi dish without turmeric. But Disha Sethi has advised you to avoid the consumption of turmeric alongside your cup of tea. She stated that this combo “can greatly affect your digestion.”
