What Is The Difference Between Puffed Rice And Flattened Rice? | Is Poha Different From Puffed Rice?
Both poha and puffed rice (murmura) are made of the same ingredient - rice. But there is a huge difference in the making process and of course, also in terms of look, taste and texture. Puffed rice has a crunchy and airy texture; whereas, flattened rice is pressed and chewy.
To make poha, rice is parboiled, then rolled, flattened and sun-dried. On the other hand, puffed rice is prepared by washing rice, then parboiling and drying it completely. The rice grain is then tossed in a hot pan filled with hot salt.
