Poha is a popular breakfast food around the country. The flattened rice food is prepared as a savoury dish and may sometimes be loaded with vegetables like peas, potatoes etc. Poha is a delicious and filling dish that doesn't have a single recipe - in fact, everyone likes their poha in a particular way. Some people prepare poha with a little bit of sugar for a hint sweetness, some make it very spicy, some others may choose to add roasted peanuts for some crunchiness. The dish is topped with bhujia or sev and fresh chopped onions and tomatoes and the mélange of flavours that is created in a plateful of poha is one that can make you look forward to the most dreadful of mornings. But have you ever tried a sweet poha dish?
Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra, who regularly doles of fitness tips and healthy diet tips, recently shared her grandma's recipe of sweet no-cook poha that is ready in just five minutes. The jaggery and coconut poha recipe was shared on Shetty's Instagram page and it looked like a great twist for a beloved food. The recipe requires very few ingredients - soaked poha, softened jaggery, freshly grated coconut, ghee and roasted nuts - and all it takes to prepare this healthy poha dish is to put all the ingredients together and serve with a garnish of nuts.

Doesn't that look simply scrumptious? If you're sceptical of consuming poha without cooking then we must mention here that since poha is prepared by parboiling rice, before flattening it with steel rollers. This is why poha requires little to no cooking before it's ready to be consumed. A lot of people prefer to eat poha soaked in milk or water by seasoning it with salt and pepper or sugar, as it easily absorbs the liquids and is light on the stomach. This version of soaked poha is fortified with healthy fats from the coconut and ghee, healthy carbs from the poha and a host of essential minerals and vitamins from the nuts. You may make this recipe as a light evening meal or even a healthy dessert.
