A simple dinner turned frustrating experience for Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra. The politician recently took to X (formerly Twitter) to publicly call out Swiggy after her prepaid food order was cancelled. What upset her even more was that she claimed the company charged her the entire Rs 1,457 as a 'cancellation fee' despite the order never reaching her. The post quickly grabbed attention online, with thousands of people joining the conversation.
Mahua Moitra Alleges Swiggy Cancelled Order, Charged Full Amount
Hello @Swiggy this is 3rd time you arbitrarily cancelled my order and have charged me full bill amount ₹1457 as “cancellation fee”. No dinner & no service help from anyone. pic.twitter.com/tQBl6X2XQr— Mahua Moitra (@MahuaMoitra) July 16, 2026
Sharing her experience on X, Mahua Moitra said this wasn't the first time it had happened. According to her, Swiggy had cancelled her order for the third time without a proper explanation. In her post, she wrote, "Hello @Swiggy this is 3rd time you arbitrarily cancelled my order and have charged me full bill amount Rs 1457 as 'cancellation fee'. No dinner & no service help from anyone."
Along with the post, she shared a screenshot of the email she received from Swiggy. The screenshot showed that her order had been cancelled and the full amount of Rs 1,457 had been charged as a cancellation fee. The incident left her without dinner and, according to her, without any meaningful help from customer support.
@MahuaMoitra We totally get how frustrating this can be, Mahua. We're reaching out to you right away. We'll review the order cancellation and the associated charges with you and work towards a resolution without any further ado.— Swiggy (@Swiggy) July 16, 2026
Soon after her post started gaining traction, Swiggy replied publicly. The company acknowledged her complaint and said, "We totally get how frustrating this can be, Mahua. We're reaching out to you right away. We'll review the order cancellation and the associated charges with you and work towards a resolution without any further ado."
Many Users Say They Faced Similar Problems
As Mahua Moitra's post went viral, the comments section was flooded with people sharing their own experiences. One user said Swiggy should first explain exactly what happened before drawing conclusions.
"Swiggy should confirm whether the customer cancelled the order herself after waiting too long for the delivery or if Swiggy cancelled the order and charged her incorrectly. Thank you," the person wrote. Another user claimed they had stopped using the app because of a similar incident.
"Deleted @Swiggy in December 2024... for the same reason. Supplier cancelled the order and they are still waiting for me to pay Rs 496 as cancellation fee. Not even allowing me to delete my account," the comment read.
Another user sarcastically criticised the situation, saying, "Wow @Swiggy, cancelling the order yourself and then charging the customer the full amount as a 'cancellation fee' is certainly an innovative business model. No food, no service, no support... but the full bill. That's not convenience, that's daylight robbery."
Several others also complained about the company's customer support system. One person wrote that Swiggy has introduced so much AI into its customer service that it has become extremely difficult to reach a real human agent who can properly understand and resolve customer issues.
