The New York Times recently unveiled its list of the top places to eat in New York City for the year 2024. The 100 Best Restaurants were selected by critic Pete Wells. We were proud to note that four restaurants serving Indian cuisine made it to this prestigious list. One of them was among the top 10. Semma in Greenwich Village occupied the 7th position this year. In 2023, it was ranked 12th overall. Semma is helmed by Chef Vijay Kumar, who hails from Tamil Nadu. The restaurant promises diners an "exploration of heritage Southern Indian cuisine".

Dhamaka on Manhattan's Lower East Side has been ranked 54th. It is led by chef and partner Chintan Pandya and restaurateur Roni Mazumdar. Temple Canteen in Queens has been ranked 80th. It is located in the basement of a Hindu temple and serves classic South Indian food like a cafeteria. Hyderabadi Zaiqa in Midtown Manhattan is the final Indian restaurant among the 100 Best in New York City. It is a new entry to the list and is ranked 95th. The establishment specialises in different types of biryani.
In the note that accompanied the list of rankings, critic Pete Wells wrote, "New York is a big city, and I tried to find 100 restaurants that represent its neighbourhoods, its people and the rewards it has in store for hungry, curious eaters. The list is a tour. If you take it, you'll see all five boroughs and a wide array of cooking and serving styles." The first three positions on the list are occupied by Tatiana by Kwame Onwuachi, Blanca and Le Bernardin. You can check out all the rankings here.
