What's better than getting delicious foods delivered at your doorsteps?! Isn't it? Trust us, you are not alone, even the astronauts in space love to get their foods delivered from their favourite food joints. Yes, you read that right! Astronauts, residing in the International Space Station (ISS), recently enjoyed some delicious pork and chicken dishes, thanks to UberEats. The food technology giant on December 11, 2021 made their first food delivery to the space. UberEats teamed up with Japanese entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa to "hand deliver beloved ready-to-eat canned Japanese dishes to the astronauts at the International Space Station", read a statement released by the Food-Tech giant. For the unversed, Yusaku Maezawa is a space tourist visiting ISS, who is also funding SpaceX mission 2023 that will take commercial passenger to a journey around the moon.
According to UberEats' official press release, "The delivery was made on December 11 at 9:40am EST having travelled 248 miles and 8 hours and 34 minutes since Maezawa's departure from Earth." The delivered foods include boiled mackerel in miso, simmered chicken with bamboo shoots, braised pork and more. This, according to UberEats was a welcoming break for the astronauts from their "standard space food".
"This delivery marks one giant leap for Uber as we're committed to helping people go anywhere and get anything - now, including space," the press release added.
UberEats Japan further shared a glimpse from ISS on Twitter and wrote alongside (in Japanese), "Uber Eats delivery continues to evolve. One after another to places that are not delivering now."
