Ingredients of Nombu Kanji

  • 1 Cup raw rice (blanched)
  • 1 cup moong dal (soaked)
  • 1/2 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup carrot, chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato, chopped
  • 2 tsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/4 cup coconut milk
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 Green chilli (slit)
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala powder
  • 1 inch cinnamon stick
  • 3 Clove
  • 2 Cardamom
  • 3 tsp oil
  • 1/2 tsp fenugreek seeds

How to Make Nombu Kanji

Grind raw rice and moong dal to a coarse mixture.

Heat oil in a pan and add fenugreek seeds, clove, cardamom, cinnamon, chillies along with onion and ginger-garlic paste. Saute well.

Now add tomato and carrot along with turmeric powder, garam masala powder and required salt. Saute until mushy and add raw rice moong dal mixture.
4.
Add water and a bit of coconut milk, pressure cook until mushy. Open and mash well.
5.
Mix well, if thick then add a bit more of coconut milk. Stir well. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve warm.
