Cereal or coffee products can contain far more calories than chocolate. Are you aware of the calorie content of the food you eat? Do you care?
Do you know how many calories are in your lunch, chocolate bar or your pint? The government's latest obesity drive has prompted Cadbury to stop manufacturing chocolate bars with more than 250 calories. But the calorie content of foods can vary a lot depending on the brand or how it is manufactured.
A Yorkie bar for example, contains 367 calories - almost double the 187 calories in a standard pack of Maltesers.
Alcohol can vary just as much. Although a single Gordon's gin and tonic contains a mere 72 calories, a 250ml glass of medium white wine contains almost 200.
Don't be fooled by coffee products either. A medium-sized Starbucks Mocha Frappuccino - made with whole milk and whipped cream - contains 400 calories and almost one half of a woman's daily allowance of saturated fat.
Fruit can also contain a lot of sugar. A pineapple, which has more than 450 calories, is one of the most sugary fruits, while an average avocado will bring with it close to 275 calories.
A 100g bowl of Jordans Super Berry granola without milk - which may seem like the healthy alternative to that breakfast buttie - contains 438 calories.
If you're looking for a healthy lunch, you can't go much lower than a miso soup. At Pret a Manger you could eat their 32 calorie version 13 times and still consume less calories than the 431 in their superfood salad.
