Are you one of those who despise foods available in trains and flights? You are not alone. Agreed these meals may not taste as good as homemade food or restaurant food but they manage to curb our cravings while travelling. However, if the meal is also unappetising, it can be a big bump in the ride. We keep hearing and reading stories of travellers complaining about in-flight and on-train meals. But when a food expert like chef Sanjeev Kapoor voices his concern about in-flight meals, we are sure to sit up and take notice.
Sanjeev Kapoor boarded an Air India flight from Nagpur to Mumbai and was quite disappointed with the in-flight meal he had. So much so that he took to Twitter to call out the airline for serving such unpalatable food to the passengers. He was seemingly disturbed to have been served a snack that was cold, sandwich that was almost empty and dessert that was just sugar.

He posted some pictures of his meal on Twitter and wrote, "Wake Up @airindiain Nagpur-Mumbai 0740 flight. Cold Chicken Tikka with watermelon, cucumber, tomato and sev. Sandwich with miniscule filling of chopped cabbage with mayo. Sugar syrup sponge painted with sweetened cream and yellow glaze." Sanjeev Kapoor even pulled apart his sandwich to show the minimal filling.

I hate to eat food on flights. Never book one. Either eat before or after the journey. Atleast we can eat hot and healthy meal. Even coffee/tea is terrible on flight. Even water is served chilled...I carry my own flask and fill it at the water kiosks after check-in.— Jyothi Joshi #SaveSoil (@jyothi_js) February 27, 2023
Watermelon with Chicken 😂🙄
May be the chicken was dried up so balancing water 😂— Ankita Chaurasia 🇮🇳 (@Ankita84sia) February 27, 2023
irony is they feel they are catering to intl travelers where it is acceptable to serve cold food. This is India & you are AirIndia. serve 1 item (Upma, poha, paratha, idli etc) but ensure quality & quantity is top class. It is not expensive or needs too much of expertise to make— Navin Kacherla 🇮🇳 (@Navinkacherla) February 27, 2023
Yes they serve well.
I filed with @airindiain last December.— Dr Dhiman Bhattacharya 🇮🇳 🇮🇳 🇮🇳 (@DrdhimanBhatta1) February 27, 2023
In a follow-up post, Sanjeev Kapoor exclaimed, "Really! Is this what Indians should eat for breakfast?"
This is not the first time Air India is embroiled in a food mess. Recently, a woman discovered a stone in her meal and posted about it on Twitter. Click here for details.
