Give your regular upma an interesting twist with these almond upma hash browns. Upma combined with almond flour, and then grilled on low heat until it becomes golden and crispy like a hash brown. These nutritious bite sized upma pieces are ideal for mornings when you're running late for work.

Ingredients of Almond Upma Hash Brown

  • 1 cup Almond Flour
  • 1/4 cup Semolina
  • 1/2 tbsp Ghee
  • 3-4 Curry Leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Dal Urad Wash
  • 2 tsp Chopped Ginger
  • 2 tsp Chopped Coriander
  • 1/2 cup Chopped Onion
  • 1 tsp Chopped Green Chilli
  • 4 tbsp Roasted Sliced Almonds
  • 1 tbsp Grated Fresh Coconut
  • to taste Salt
  • 200 ml Water
  • Desi Ghee/Olive Oil (for grilling)

How to Make Almond Upma Hash Brown

In a pan, heat ghee. Add mustard seeds and allow them to splutter.

Add urad dal, hand torn curry leaves, coconut, chopped ginger, garlic, green chilies and onion. Saute till golden. Add semolina and dry roast for 1-2 minutes.

Now, add almond powder and broil until it turns pale.

Add water, and season it with salt. Cook till porridge like consistency is achieved. Take off the heat and add 1 tbsp sliced almonds and chopped coriander.

Spread it in a greased tray, sprinkle remaining almonds allow it cool. Cut into desired bite sized shape.
6.
Grill them on a non-stick tawa with desi ghee/ olive oil on low heat till light golden color and crisp texture like a hash brown.
7.
Serve warm with your choice of chutneys.
