Ingredients of Andhra-Style Tomato Chutney

  • 4 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp haldi
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 2-3 green chillies
  • 1-2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp jeera
  • 1/2 coriander seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 2-3 tbsp oil
  • Salt to taste
  • A handful of curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp tamarind paste

How to Make Andhra-Style Tomato Chutney

To prepare the chutney, heat oil in a pan. Once done, add jeera, curry leaves, coriander seeds and garlic cloves. Mix well.

Add chopped onions and green chillies, and continue to cook until the onions become golden brown in colour.

Next, add chopped tomatoes, haldi, tamarind paste, and salt. Give it a nice mix and saute for 2-3 minutes.

Cover the lid of the pan and cook the tomatoes until they become soft. Once done, add red chilli powder and fresh coriander leaves. Mix well.

Switch off the flame and allow the mixture to cool down. Then, transfer it to a mixer grinder and blend into a smooth paste.

Now, prepare a tadka with oil, mustard seeds, and urad dal. Add the tadka to the tomato mixture and mix well. Andhra-style tomato chutney is ready!
