Dal Pithi is a very famous dish from Bihar. It is made with yellow dal and wheat dumplings. Serve it with raita and salad.

Ingredients of Dal Pithi

  • 1 Cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Tuvar Dal
  • 1/2 cup Red lentils
  • 1/2 cup Green Gram
  • 1 tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds Powder
  • to taste Red Chilli Powder
  • to taste Salt
  • 3-4 Green Chilli (chopped)
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • A pinch of Hing
  • 1/2 tsp Jeera
  • as required Desi ghee
  • 1 medium Onion (chopped)

How to Make Dal Pithi

Wash the pulses properly and soak them for about 2-3 hours before cooking.

Make whole wheat dough and set it aside.

Now, add dal with all the ingredients and pressure cook it until two whistles.

Meanwhile, make small balls of the whole wheat dough. The size of the balls should be smaller than the size of lemons.

Then take one ball, dust it with some dry wheat flour and roll it flat like a poori. Then bring the sides together to form a flower like shape. Prepare all pithis in the same way.
6.
Add pithis into the dal and simmer for 10-15 minutes on low-medium heat.
7.
Add desi ghee with hing and serve hot!

Key Ingredients: Tuvar Dal, Red lentils, Green Gram, Turmeric Powder, Cumin Seeds Powder, Red Chilli Powder , Salt, Green Chilli (chopped), Ginger, Hing, Jeera, Desi ghee, Onion (chopped)
