1.
Wash and soak toor dal for at least 30 minutes to one hour. Then take a pressure cooker and put amlas, chopped onions, green chillies, turmeric, water, and salt along with the soaked dal in it. Pressure cook it for 3 whistles before switching off the burner. Allow the steam to escape the cooker.
2.
Take out the mushy amlas in a plate and deseed them. Keep them aside.
3.
Now take a ladle and mash the dal. Now add the mashed amlas in and adjust the dal’s consistency as per your preference. If you want to add water, this is the time you should.
4.
Add salt to the dal and give it a good mix. Keep it aside.
5.
For tempering, take a small pan and add oil. After it heats up, add mustard seeds and wait for them to splutter. After they do, add cumin seeds, hing, red chilli and curry leaves. Saute the pan ingredients for 30 seconds and add chopped amlas to it. Sprinkle some red chilli powder as well. Cook it for 30 seconds and switch off the flame.
6.
Add this tempering to dal and give it a good mix. And voila! Your amla dal is ready to serve!
