Khatta Moong is a dal recipe from Gujarat that can be paired with flatbreads and rice.

Ingredients of Khatta Moong
- 2 Cups Moong Dal (Whole Green Gram)
- 1 cup Sour Curd
- 2 tsp Red Chilli Powder
- 3 tbsp Besan (Chickpea flour)
- 2 tsp Haldi (Turmeric powder)
- 2 tsp Dhaniya Powder (Coriander powder)
- 1 tsp Jeera (cumin seeds)
- 1 tsp Rye (mustard seeds)
- 2 nos Green chillies
- 5-6 nos Curry leaves
- 5-6 nos Ginger slivers
- 1/2 cup Coriander Leaves, chopped
How to Make Khatta Moong

Wash and rinse moong dal. Once done, soak it in enough water for 1-2 hours.

Take a pressure cooker and add the soaked dal to it. Add three cups of water to the pressure cooker and cook the dal for at least 3 whistles.

In the meantime, take a bowl and add besan, sour curd, red chilli powder and turmeric along with one cup of water. Mix well and let it sit for a while.

In a pan, heat some oil and add jeera, rye, green chillies, and curry leaves. Let the jeera splutter on a medium flame for a few seconds in the pan.

Once done, transfer the boiled moong dal to the pan and mix well. Make sure all the ingredients are combined well.

Cook the dal on a medium flame for 1-2 minutes. Now add the besan-curd mixture to the dal and mix. Let the ingredients combine well and cook on a simmer for 3-4 minutes.

Once done, remove the cooked dal from heat. Garnish with coriander leaves and ginger slivers, and it’s done!
