How to make Kerala-Style Chilli Chicken

This chilli chicken is made with numerous desi spices like turmeric, cumin powder, black pepper, garam masala and more. Unlike other chilli chicken recipes, this chilli chicken recipe does not involve sauces like soy, chilli and more. Let’s get started with the recipe.

Ingredients of Kerala-Style Chilli Chicken

  • 500 Gram Boneless Chicken
  • 2 tbsp Chilli Flakes
  • 1 tsp Ginger (Crushed)
  • 2 tbsp Garlic
  • 1 Sprig Curry leaves
  • 2 tsp Vinegar or Lemon Juice
  • 1 large Onion (Sliced)
  • 1/2 cup Tomato Puree
  • 1/2 cup Coconut Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Black Peppercorns
  • 2 Cardamom
  • 1 tsp Fennel seeds
  • 1/4 cup Coconut Slices
  • 4 Green chilies

How to Make Kerala-Style Chilli Chicken

Cut the chicken into small cubed sized pieces and wash with little turmeric powder; drain it and set it aside.

Meanwhile, heat a pan and dry roast the dry spices. Once done, grind the above roasted spices into a coarse powder.

Marinate the chicken pieces with roasted powder, chilli flakes, ginger garlic paste, curry leaves, vinegar or lemon juice, salt to taste.

Heat the pan with 3 tbsp of oil and fry the coconut slices to light brown colour.

In the same pan, add the remaining oil and add finely chopped onions and green chilies and saute until translucent and brown in colour, now add the curry leaves and saute for couple of minutes.

Now add marinated chicken pieces and combine well; fry it for 5-10 mins, cover and cook till the chicken well cooked.
7.
Add the tomato puree and roast it over medium-low flame till the pure changes colour. Once the chicken starts to dry and have attained the dark brown color then add fried coconut slices and combine well.
8.
Your chicken is ready to be savoured.
