Taco Salad Recipe: Taco Salad is a very easy and delicious recipe made with lettuce, cherry tomatoes and cheddar cheese with mild spices. This simple salad is ready in just 15 minutes.

Ingredients of Taco Salad

  • For the Salad:
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1 packet of taco seasoning mix (or make your own with chilli powder, cumin, paprika, onion powder, and garlic powder)
  • 6 cups lettuce (Iceberg or Romaine), chopped
  • 1 cup Cherry Tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup canned black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup tortilla chips, crushed or strips
  • For the Dressing:
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 tsp lime juice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Taco Salad

In a pan, over medium heat, cook the ground chicken until it's browned and no longer pink.
Add the taco seasoning mix and water (according to the seasoning packet instructions). Cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens.
In a small bowl, whisk together the sour cream, salsa, mayonnaise, lime juice, ground cumin, and chilli powder. Season the dressing with salt and pepper to taste.
In a large bowl, place the chopped lettuce as the base.
On top of the lettuce, arrange the seasoned ground chicken.
Add cherry tomatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, black beans, black olives, and sliced onions.
Sprinkle the crushed tortilla chips over the top for that essential crunch.
Drizzle the dressing evenly over the salad.
Toss everything together or serve as is, allowing everyone to mix their own salad. Serve while the chicken is warm.

Recipe Notes

 For the vegetarian option - replace chicken with veggies like boiled beans, corn, capsicum etc.
