We have a love and hate relationship with the monsoons, right? While we all wait for monsoons to savour some of our favourite snacks like bhajiya [fitters] or corn [bhutta], our issue is with the hair problems it brings along. Especially, hair fall. Well, there are a bunch of factors that need to be kept under check, like picking the correct shampoo, serum, and conditioner along with using hair styling tools with proper protection. But we cannot ignore the fact that our diet also plays a pivotal role in ensuring hair health. Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, in her recent Instagram post, has discussed three food items that can prevent hair loss during monsoons. The health expert has also given us some ways to include food items in your diet.

Methi dana or fenugreek has numerous health benefits, one being it reduces hair fall. The nutritionist suggests adding methi dana to some warm coconut oil. Once it gets cooled, massage it on your scalp and leave it overnight. Nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar said that it “can also be added to kadhi and had with khichdi for dinner.” Alternatively, you can use it for tadka in vegetables. In case the hair loss is a hormonal issue, like PCOD, methi dana does wonder. It also improves insulin response.
Also known as Garden cress or Halim, Aliv seeds are packed with calcium, nutrients, iron, dietary fibre, and various vitamins like A, C, and E which promote hair growth. Wondering how to consume them? Soak these seeds and have them with milk at night. As per the health expert, you can “roll these rich seeds into ladoos with coconut and ghee for even better results.” She further said that Aliv seeds also help with hair loss that comes with chemo treatment.
This spice can do wonders to the hair. Not only will it make your tresses stronger, but can also prevent hair fall, encourage hair growth and even add extra volume. You can add a small pinch of nutmeg powder to milk (along with Aliv seeds) and have it as a nightcap. Vitamin B6, folic acid and magnesium in nutmeg help to prevent hair loss, the health expert stated.
Rujuta has also mentioned three other ingredients- ghee, haldi (turmeric), dahi (curd) - that are useful for preventing hair loss. According to nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar, ghee should be consumed “for its essential fats'', while haldi is preferred in diet “for its immune-boosting properties.” As far as dahi or curd is concerned, it is needed “for the minerals and probiotic bacteria.”
