'Club Sandwich Cheapest in India, Geneva Most Expensive'
Club sandwich -- the classic late-evening hotel staple of chicken, bacon, egg, lettuce and mayonnaise -- is cheapest in India's capital and most expensive in Geneva in Switzerland, as per the latest "Club Sandwich Index" of Hotels.com.

The survey showed that it cost an average Rs.1,652 to buy a club sandwich in Geneva, which wrested the costliest tag from Paris this year in the annual survey, while in New Delhi the average cost is Rs.494 -- cheaper by more than three times.

In the interesting index, the price price is calculated from what guests pay in 30 hotels in the capital or an important tourist city of each country surveyed -- across five, four and three star categories.

In total, 840 hotels globally were canvassed, Hotels.com said, adding the index, now in its second year, reflects not just changes in the actual price but also the effect of currency fluctuations.

Club Sandwich Index (CSI) offers holidaymakers an indication of the cost of living associated with their destination of choice.

"The club sandwich, available on hotel menus across the globe, is the perfect spending barometer, helping tourists factor into their travel plans the everyday cost of simple items such as food and drink," Alison Couper from Hotels.com said.

"The price changes when comparing 2013 to 2012 hide a complex story of factors from changes in the local price of basic food items through to currency fluctuations."
