Festivities are around the corner and there is good news for Mumbaikars and those planning to ring in the new year in Mumbai. As per a circular of the excise department, hotels have been allowed to stay open till 5am on the 24, 25 and 31 December. Xmas and new year celebrations are going to last longer as the bars will be open till wee hours. The excise department has also allowed liquor shops to operate til1 am as opposed to 10:30 pm right now.In one of the leading dailies, Adarsh Shetty, the President of the Indian Hotels and Restaurants Association (AHAR) was quoted as saying that the excise department has always allowed the hotels to stay open till late on these three days for years but the police does not allow the hotels to operate after 1:30 am. So, getting police permission is crucial. The police allows hotels and bars to stay open till late only on the New Year's Eve and not on Christmas. These relaxed timings can play a big role in boosting revenue at hotels and restaurants.
