Inspired from barista art that, for the longest time, made for viral videos on Instagram and Twitter, the 'selfieccino' is a hot cuppa joe decorated with foam that has the customer's face on it. The 'selfieccino' is served at The Tea Terrace, a quaint café located in central London. This place is currently the only one in the world, serving the uniquely decorated coffee till now. But how does it work?
Well obviously there's some posing and pouting involved. The customer sends a selfie to the barista, via an online messaging application. The barista then takes the customer's order of a hot chocolate or coffee, and uploads it on a machine called 'Cino'. The machine is able to scan and reproduce the image on the froth of the ordered drink.
The image is created using a flavorless food coloring, in the froth of the coffee. The whole process takes about 5-10 minutes, between your face appearing on the coffee froth and the coffee turning up in your followers' Instagram feed. The 'selfieccino' has been priced at $7.5 or Rs. 480. The drink was launched on Saturday (17th December, 2017) and over 400 of the customized coffees and hot chocolates have been sold since then.
Needless to say, it has created a stir on social media too, with two of the biggest shared things coming together in one food trend- selfies and coffee. So, the next time you feel like you want to see your face painted in foam on your coffee, you know where to head.
