The sirtfood diet is based on upping your intake of healthy sirtfoods, which are foods that work by activating specific proteins in the body called sirtuins. Sirtuins are known to protect cells in the body when they are under stress and are further thought to regulate inflammation, metabolism and ageing process. It is believed that sirtuins influence the body's ability to burn fat and boost metabolism, while maintaining muscles. Some of the foods that are known to be sirtfoods include green tea, apples, parsley, turmeric, red wine, blueberries, dark chocolates, citrus fruits, soy, olive oil, kale, coffee, et al.

The second phase is the maintenance phase which lasts for 14 odd days where you experience steady weight loss. While many may have liked the idea of sirtfood diet, many experts have given thumbs down considering it may not help lose weight so quickly. It can definitely help reduce the fluids in the body which looks like you have lost weight but it is not fat that is burning. Eating balanced regular meals that are made up of low glycemic index, lean protein, seasonal fruits and vegetables and keeping yourself hydrated along with at least 30 minutes of exercise daily are the safest ways to lose weight and stay fit.
