Eating out can be a fun activity, especially if you have company. You can explore more dishes, share food, have drinks, chat, and have a good time. However, dining out comes with etiquette that is appreciated when followed. Now, usually, there is staff for opening the doors and pulling out the chairs, so what is left to do? Well, dining etiquette is more than chivalry. It lies in the small, detailed behaviour. One common situation we address in this article is when you see that there is a little bit of sauce or a tiny piece of food in the corner of your dining companion's mouth. How do you tell them?
Etiquette coach William Hanson has recently shared a video on Instagram to address this dining situation. The etiquette video has gone viral, with more than 7 million views.
What Not To Do:
"Well, it's not correct etiquette just to tell them directly, especially if there are other people around," says the coach. Being suddenly pointed out this way can make your dining partner feel uncomfortable, especially if more people are sitting around.
How To Tell Them Politely:
"Instead, it's all done by non-verbal communication," adds the coach. Here's the correct dining etiquette for handling this situation. "Take your napkin, tab the corner of your mouth while making eye contact and they'll soon get the message," William Hanson explains. Watch the full video on how to do it:
Why Is It Important To Communicate?
Some people who find this situation awkward may ignore it completely and not communicate to their partner that they have some food on their face. However, it is best to learn how to share this information in a non-embarrassing manner as your dining partner may feel bad if you let them go about for long without telling them to clean their face.
