According to consultant nutritionist Rupali Datta, broccoli has a very low glycemic index of 15. It is low in calories and is a source of fibre, all of which make it a diabetes superfood. In a lab study published in the journal "Diabetes" in 2008, a team of researchers found that sulforaphane in broccoli protects against cell damage caused to blood vessels in most diabetes cases.

Broccoli has a low GI index
