If you're in Delhi this week and have a soft spot for unique flavours, the Australian Macadamia Festival should be on your radar. From September 1st to 9th, the city is getting a taste of Australia's premium macadamia nuts, thanks to a larger-than-life festival organised by the Australian Macadamia Society (AMS). Supported by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission, this second edition of the festival is a nod to the growing love for these buttery, rich nuts that are now more accessible than ever in India.
A Nutty Affair Across Delhi
What makes this year's festival stand out is its widespread reach. Unlike the first edition, which was more of a niche affair, the 2024 festival has partnered with 11 of Delhi's most renowned culinary spots. From cosy cafes to upscale bars and patisseries, these establishments are showcasing Australian macadamias in ways that'll make you see nuts in a whole new light. Whether you're a fan of vegan dishes, global cuisine, or innovative cocktails, there's something for everyone.
Jacqui Price, Marketing Manager of AMS, hit the nail on the head when she said, "This festival embodies the perfect harmony between local and global, encouraging everyone to appreciate their local favourites while enjoying a taste of Australia." And she's not wrong. The festival is all about blending Delhi's vibrant food culture with the premium quality of Australian macadamias.
What's on the Menu?
- 2 September to 3 September 2024: The festival kicked off with a bang at Miam Patisserie on the 2nd and 3rd of September, where Chef Bani Nanda led an interactive baking demo. Attendees were not just passive observers; they rolled up their sleeves and gained hands-on experience creating a stunning Australian Macadamia Bundt Cake. The rich, nutty flavour of macadamias paired beautifully with the sweet, moist cake -a combination that left everyone craving more.
- 4 September 2024: Next up is the cocktail workshop at Sidecar on the 4th, led by co-founder Minakshi Singh. If you've never tasted macadamias in a cocktail, you're missing out. Singh will showcase innovative cocktails that perfectly balance the rich flavour of macadamias with craft mixology. It promises to be a masterclass in turning a simple nut into something extraordinary.
- 5 September 2024: For those in the food industry, the Trade Meet on the 5th at The Holiday Inn, Aerocity, will be the place to be. With keynote speaker Mahendra M. Barve from ITC discussing the commercial potential of Australian macadamias, it will be an eye-opening session that highlights how these nuts could revolutionize India's food industry.
