Honestly, it is hard to say no when a piping hot makki ki roti with oodles of ghee and a wholesome bowl of sarson da saag is served on the table. Well, we have to thank Neha Dhupia for bringing out the hidden Punjabi within us. The actress recently gobbled down this classic winter dish. And, she has shared a glimpse of her indulgence on Instagram Stories. The photo featured a bowl of sarson saag, which was accompanied by a nicely cooked “makki di roti.” The picture was enough to trigger our cravings for this lip-smacking Punjabi treat.

Makki di roti and sarson saag are loaded with home-grounded spices. The hearty meal, traditionally served with loads of ghee and [white] butter, makes everyone happy. Are you craving this authentic Punjabi dish? Don't worry, we have a cracking recipe to prepare this delicacy at home.
How To Make Sarson Saag:
Ingredients For Saag:
Sarson saag: 750 gms
Palak saag: 250 gms
Bathua saag: 250 gms
Water: 2 cups with a pinch of salt
Makki atta:1 ½ cup
Green chillies: 4
Ginger: 25 gms
Onions: 2
Garlic cloves: 6
Ghee: 100 gms
Red pepper powder: ½ tsp
Garam masala: ½ tsp
Coriander powder: ½ tsp
Method:
Step1: Add the three saags, salty water into a pressure cooker. Cook over low heat for 1 1/2 hours.
Step 2: Remove the remaining water from the cooker and keep it aside. Now, mash saag in the cooker until coarsely ground, add makki atta and stir.
Step 3: Put back the saag water and a little fresh water.
Step 4: Add green chillies, ginger, and cook till the saag gets thick.
Step 5. For your tadka, take a pan and add chopped onions, ginger, garlic, red pepper powder; garam masala, and dhania powder. Now, saute until onions are light brown.
Step 6. Empty the sauteed onions into saag and garnish with julienne of ginger fried in ghee.

Makki Atta: ½ kg
Water (for kneading)
Ghee (for frying)
Method:
Step 1: Knead the makki atta until it becomes a ball. Add atta to dry it and knead the dough.
Step 2: Next, you heat the tava. Coat it with some ghee.
Step 3. Make round shapes of makki roti. Carefully transfer them to the tava.
Step 4. Cook until they get golden brown.
Step 5. Serve it with hot sarson da saag.
