Ingredients of Chana Dal and Cabbage Tikki

  • 2 Cups chana dal, soaked
  • 1 cup cabbage, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup carrot, finely chopped
  • 6 green chillies, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger, finely chopped
  • 1 cup coriander leaves
  • 1 cup roasted besan
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tbsp chaat masala
  • 2 tsp chilli powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • More oil for pan-frying

How to Make Chana Dal and Cabbage Tikki

Soak the chana dal for 4-5 hours. Drain the water and grind the dal to form a coarse paste.

In a large bowl, combine the paste with the cabbage, carrot, green chillies, chilli powder, chaat masala and coriander leaves.

Now, prepare a tadka (tempering) by heating a little oil (1 tbsp) and adding the cumin seeds and ginger to it. Once the seeds crackle, pour this tadka over the chana dal mixture.

Stir and add salt to taste. Finally, add the roasted besan and mix well.

Now, divide the mixture into small, round pieces. Flatten carefully to form tikkis.
6.
Heat oil in a non-stick pan or tawa and cook the tikkis on both sides until golden brown. Serve hot with fresh pudina (mint) chutney and/or tomato ketchup.
