Just like rajma chawal, rajma pulao too is made using rajma, rice and a blend of aromatic spices. But what sets it apart is its preparation style. This recipe is easy to make and tastes best when served with raita and salad.

Ingredients of Rajma Pulao

  • 1/2 cup Rajma
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 Bay leaf
  • 3 Cloves
  • 2-3 Green cardamoms
  • 1 Black cardamom
  • 1 inch Cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 6-7 Garlic cloves
  • 2 Green chillies
  • 3 tbsp Oil
  • 1 Onion (chopped)
  • 1/4 cup Chopped coriander
  • 1/4 tsp Haldi
  • 1/2 tsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp Coriander powder
  • 1/2 cup Basmati rice
  • 1/2 tsp Lemon juice
  • to taste Salt

How to Make Rajma Pulao

Soak rajma a night before. Pressure cook the soaked rajma for 10 minutes.

Soak rice for 20-30 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare a paste of ginger, garlic and green chillies.

Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Fry whole spices like bay leaf, green cardamom, black cardamom, cinnamon, cumin seeds and cloves.

Add chopped onions, coriander leaves, the paste and saute till the raw ginger-garlic smell goes away.

Next, add the cooked rajma and season with haldi, red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt. Add the soaked rice, water and lemon juice.
6.
Pressure cook for 2-3 whistles and rajma pulao is ready!
