The surprise check was conducted by the Zonal Commissioner, Serilingampally, along with the Food Safety Officer team.

"As a state food safety commissioner, I have to ensure that every person who is eating food gets safe food," Tukaram Mundhe told NDTV.

The seized stock, valued at approximately Rs 2.25 lakh, was subsequently destroyed.

The food safety officials seized nearly 1,400 kg of adulterated khoya contaminated with fungus.

Calcium carbide, commonly referred to as "masala", has been historically misused to artificially ripen fruits such as mangoes, bananas and papayas.
