The appeal of the Guinness World Records is a strong one, still. Since its birth in the 1950s, it has gathered people from the corners of the world to perform strange and sensational tasks every year. Many of them prompt us to question their strength, and others sanity - especially when it comes to food.
I’ve just been able to scratch the surface of weirdness and found six bizarre feats that have made it into the record book, but are nonetheless impressive. Some of these may leave you expressionless – not a world record category, sadly.
1. Fastest sandwich made using feet
In 2000, Rob Williams of Austin made a Bologna, cheese and lettuce sandwich just using his feet in 1 minute 57 seconds! The sandwich was made with two bread slices that were taken out of the loaf packet, Oscar Meyer Bologna with the rind which he removed, slices of processed cheese removed from the plastic, lettuce, mustard, mayonnaise and sliced pickles. It was cut in half and served on the plate, complete with olives on cocktail sticks.
2. Fastest time to drink a bottle of ketchup
You have to wonder who came up with some of these records. No one’s probably loved ketchup as much as TV reporter Benedikt Weber from Germany. He drank a bottle of Aro tomato ketchup in 32.37 seconds through a drinking straw. Now, that should be illegal.

3. Most milkshake dispensed through the nose
Honestly, how do you ever discover that this is one of your hidden talents? In 1999, Gary Bashaw Jr from America, mixed milk and chocolate powder in his mouth, and then dispensed the chocolate milk mixture into a cup from his nose, measuring 54 ml.
4. Most walnuts cracked against the head in one minute
I am not sure who designed this act or how many drinks they’d had, but yes, we have a record for smashing the most number of walnuts against the head in one minute! This record was achieved by Muhammed Rashid (Pakistan), at Punjab Youth Festival 2014 organized by Sports Board Punjab, in Lahore, Pakistan. He cracked 150 walnuts in one minute against the head.
5. Most apples crushed with the bicep in one minute
This woman never needs a man’s help. Linsey Lindberg from USA set the record for crushing the most number of apples with her bicep in one minute on Lo Show Dei Record in Milan, Italy, on 3 July 2014. She managed to smash 10 of them. Popular as Strong Woman Mama Lou she is both gorgeous and dangerous. She can bend metal bars, rip telephone directories in half with bare hands and blow into a hot water bottle until it explodes! She quit her job at a prestigious accounting firm to join the circus and now performs different acts act across the US, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
6. Loudest Burp
Why, you may ask? But when Paul Hunn burps, people like to hear it. Popularly called the ‘Burper King’, Hunn has been the belch champion for the past decade, except in 2009 when someone beat his record of a 107.1 decibel burp. His current record rang at a deafening 109.9 decibels! This is about 10 decibels higher than the level that causes hearing loss.
