Are your Instagram feeds of people boasting their baking skills making you jealous? You are not the only one seething and wanting to make one and eat it too. This lockdown due to Coronavirus has left us with ample time to learn and improve our baking skills. So, join the baking bandwagon and get down to making a succulent cake for yourself instead of moping around. And, don't just settle for basic vanilla or chocolate cake, make a divine black forest cake, which is almost as simple as baking any ordinary tea cake.
Simple Black Forest Cake Recipe -
2 cups all-purpose flour
Half cup butter
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups powdered sugar
Half cup cocoa powder
1 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
A pinch of salt
1 cup milk
1 tablespoon oil
2 teaspoons vanilla essence
For cherry topping -
2 cups cherries
Half cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons cornstarch
Half teaspoon vanilla extract
For Whipped Cream Frosting -
2 cups heavy whipping cream
2 tablespoons finely powdered sugar, sieved
1 tablespoon milk
Step 1 - Combine butter and sugar in a bowl and whisk well. Add beaten eggs and whisk again.
Step 2- Place a colander over the bowl and put flour, baking powder, baking soda, cocoa powder and salt in it. Mix and pass through the colander.
Step 3 - Whisk thoroughly while adding milk in parts.
Step 5 - Pour the mixture in cake pan lined with greased butter paper. Put it in the pre-heated oven and bake at 180 degree centigrade for around 30 minutes.
Step 6 - Make cherry syrup: Juice one cup of cherries, add cherries, cornstarch and sugar, and heat in a pan till it thickens. Add half teaspoon vanilla essence and give it a good stir. Take it out of the stove and let it cool.
Step 7 - For whipped cream, mix heavy cream and sugar and whisk well (ideally with an electric whisker) till the cram turns fluffy. Add milk and whisk till it turns into whipped cream.
Cut the cake horizontally into two slices. Smear one cake slice with whipped cream and cherry syrup. Place the second slice of cake over it and spread rest of the whipped cream and cherry syrup over it.
There you have it, your own Instagram-worthy black forest cake. Feel free to decorate it with chocolate shavings and some more cherries on top.
