Ever since the lockdown restrictions have started to ease, all we have been craving for are the beautiful Delhi nights, where good food and good company would go hand-in-hand! Although the pandemic stripped the capital of its nightlife, the city's culinary industry is bringing it back- with a bang! Recently, I was invited to The Westin Gurgaon's Prego, an Italian fine dining restaurant, to try out their new menu specially curated by ex-pat Italian Chef Reno Serra. So, if you are looking to try out authentic Italian cuisine in Delhi NCR, then I recommend Prego as the place for you.
The team at Westin planned a 6-course sit-down meal with the who's who of the city and the food was par excellence! The pleasant cold evening was the perfect backdrop to the serene outdoor event. With lanterns hanging from trees and beautiful floral settings all over the courtyard, I was enthralled by the beautiful décor of the restaurant. As I walked in, I was greeted with the first course of the meal, the hors d'oeuvres. I tried the Italian classics - tomato bruschetta, parma ham and melon, artichoke and mint bruschetta, cheese and focaccia and calamari frito misto.
Once all the guests took their seats at the table, we were served with the appetizer (second course) for the evening - smoked salmon carpaccio with soft goat's cheese and winter greens. For the third course of the meal, we were served cream of parmesan soup and it was as cheesy and delicious as it sounds! After that, we enjoyed the potato gnocchi in portobello, oyster, shimji mushroom sauce. The gnocchi was so soft that it melted in my mouth. Then came the main course with breaded lamb chops, olive potatoes and leafy greens; the meat was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside! Last, but not least, was the cinnamon flavoured apple baked in puff pastry served with ice cream for dessert.
After plenty of food and good conversations, I have come to the delightful conclusion that Prego is one of the best places in the city for a heartwarming evening with friends and family. Going to Prego has brought back my faith in the city's potential to offer a wonderful evening that goes beyond delicious food.
