Innovation in the alco-bev industry is reaching new heights - literally. Recently, a premium spirits brand based in Burgundy, France, announced the launch of a vodka enriched with a meteorite. If you ever dreamed about a taste of outer space, this exclusive spirit by Pegasus Distellerie promises to deliver it in a bottle of its Shooting Star Vodka. The vodka is reportedly made from organic, locally sourced wheat. It undergoes three rounds of slow reflux distillation, which is the equivalent of more than ten classic distillations, the company claims.
The spirit is reduced over a month with "Meursault Water," i.e., pure spring water from an underground river 150 metres below the distillery. It is then aged for a minimum of one year in a terracotta amphora from Italy. The ageing in the amphora allows "for a slow and controlled exchange of oxygen that results in a smoother and more refined texture", as per the website. Moreover, it is at this stage that the meteorite comes into play, as one is suspended at the centre. This outer-world element imparts "an unrivalled taste and structure to our vodka, resulting from the infusion of chondrite, a mineral unique to meteorites," according to the website.

Maxime Girardin, Founder and Master Distiller at Pegasus Distillerie, stated, "The flavour profile introduced to our Shooting Star Vodka through the meteorite and the ageing process represents an innovation that you won't find anywhere else." The premium spirit was introduced as part of the brand's US launch.
Spirits with innovative flavours seem to be taking the market - and the internet - by storm in recent times. Before this, a "Nacho Cheese Spirit" launched by Doritos, in collaboration with a Denmark-based spirits company, grabbed many eyeballs online. Click here to read the full story.
